The producers and their wines

Cantina Kurtatsch

Vineyards on breathtakingly steep slopes from 220-900m a.s.l. - such a large difference in altitude within one municipality is unique in Europe. The wide array of elevations and soil types dictates the philosophy of the province’s southernmost cooperative: to produce distinctive wines that reflect their growing site, their terroir, in the best way possible.  The young team has oriented the winery towards sustainable management. Thanks to the 190 small-structured family farms that cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, the best grape material for each individual location can be selected. This and the precise vinification of the individual vineyard sites create distinctive and unmistakable wines which truly reflect their place of origin. The result: fresh, mineral white wines from high locations and long-lasting red wines from warm locations. Vineyard by Vineyard. Wine by Wine.

Tiefenbrunner

We are a family-owned winery with a long tradition. The estate is in family possession since 1675 and currently, three generations of Tiefenbrunner’s are actively working in the winery. This underlines the high importance we attach to the art of winemaking and how it is a precious component of our family identity. We regard it as our responsibility to preserve what has been created by our ancestors and bring it forward with respect. A responsibility that is renewed day by day.

Our family owns some 25 hectares of vineyards and receive grapes grown on about 50 hectares of land by forty small scale wine growers, who have been loyal suppliers for many years now. We grow wine from 200 up to 1.000 m.a.s.l. and benefit from diversified soils which enables us to find for each of our thirteen grape varieties the ideal position. It is our enologist - Stephan Rohregger’s philosophy to retain the individual character of the varieties and locations during the winemaking process in the cellar by following the principle «less is more». We strive to make wines with a personality of their own, matured over time and shaped by their origins and history that outlast short lived trends.

Weingut Peter Dipoli

Many years ago I put my lifelong passion for wine into practice by becoming a wine producer. I wanted to make wines that would reflect my ideas about which grape varieties to use, and about the most correct and respectful ways of turning them into wine.
I believe that each grape variety should be planted in the environment that best suits it. The producer’s job is to transform the grapes – as naturally as they arrive from the vineyards – into wines that express the characteristics of soil, habitat and growing season these grapes are a fruit of.
A respect for these factors precludes all predetermined styles of wine, too often produced following momentary fashions. I am happy when consumers understand a wine to be the result of specific growing conditions, with whatever natural variabilities these may entail. Only then they can appreciate a great wine as being a unique and true expression of a grape, its territory and its producer.
No Facebook, no Twitter – just wine!

Baron Widmann

Wine Estate Baron Widmann is located in the historical family manor in the center of Cortaccia. For generations we dedicated ourselves amongst other agricultural endeavors primarily to viticulture. Our vineyards, all situated within the municipality of Cortaccia, range from an altitude between 250m and 600m above sea level. It is of utmost importance for us to cultivate in each site the right variety, in order to make wines that express authentically their place of origin. Our ancestor, Alfons Ritter von Widmann, was the first one to plant Cabernet-vines in this area at the end of the 19th century. Today, we are more than ever convinced of the great potential that Cortaccia holds for Bordeaux varieties!
